Couch Rush

Eight toy cars. One screen.
Don't fall off it.

Couch Rush is a top-down party racer for two to eight people on the same couch, on the same screen. Tiny toy cars tear around a chalk circuit drawn across a bedroom floor — under the bed, past the bricks, through a corridor of dominoes — while one camera follows the pack. There's no split screen, no items, no waiting your turn. Drop off the back of the screen and you're out of the round.

  • 2–8players, one couch
  • 1shared screen
  • 0items, ever
  • 3inputs: steer, go, brake

How it playsThe screen is the only thing that can kill you.

Eight cars race around a loop. The screen follows the middle of the pack, and the car that drops off the back is out.

Round 1 — on the grid

A whole round, sped up. The white frame is what the room sees. Red means out.

  1. 1

Everyone starts bunched on the grid.

The camera sits on the middle of the pack at a fixed zoom, so at the start everybody has the whole screen to play with.

  2. 2

The pack stretches. The edge starts to bite.

The screen only moves as fast as the field does. When the group spreads wider than one screen, whoever is dropped off the back is out for the round. The front never kills anyone: whoever is leading is safe by rule, so all the pressure is on the back.

  3. 3

    Shove, don't shoot.

There are no weapons or pickups. Bumping is the whole combat model — a well-timed nudge into a domino wall is all the offense you need.

  4. 4

Last car standing ends the round. Then everyone's back.

Points go by elimination order, the pack resets on the grid, and the match runs until someone reaches the point target. Rounds are short, so being knocked out costs you a moment, not the evening.

The lookA chalk track on the floor you grew up on.

Early look-development renders. Everything here is work in progress and will change.

The trackOne bedroom. One loop. Everything on the floor is in play.

The whole circuit fits in a kid's room. It runs out from under the bed, past a brick garage on the start straight, into a chicane, through the esses, around a hairpin and back — and every toy left lying around is part of the course.

  • Chalk lines mark the track. Off it, the floor is slower and less forgiving.
  • Blue chalk is the course marshal: arrows, grid boxes, and the odd warning.
  • Pink chalk is where somebody got creative and stopped drawing a track.
  • Bricks, books and dominoes are the walls. They don't move. You will.

ControlsExplained in the time it takes to hand someone a controller.

◀▶

Steer

Left and right turn the car. Drifts and countersteer are yours to learn, not the game's to fake.

A

Go

Hold to accelerate. That's most of the game.

B

Brake

Slow down, or back out of the domino wall you just drove into.
